Sadie’s Lean Gaining Phase Journey

 

How’s it going ladies and gents! Today we are excited to share our client and friend, Sadie’s 6 month lean gaining phase journey.

Sadie came to us with the following frustrations in her current training and nutrition program:

  • She was following an all or nothing “clean eating” approach
  • She was restricting her favorite foods
  • She was having binge and cheat meals on weekends
  • She was then feeling guilty from the binge meals and it caused extra mental stress and a poor relationship with foods
  • She wasn’t following a properly periodized training program

These frustrations that Sadie had are very common and the biggest root of the problem stems from the food restrictions which leads to the binge eating and causes a vicious weekly cycle.

We knew if we could slowly add in some of Sadie’s favorite foods throughout the week that would take care of the weekend binging because she wouldn’t have that urge to go out and eat that “one and only cheat meal” for the week.

We then incorporated flexible dieting into her nutrition program along with a properly periodized resistance training program where she focused on gaining muscle mass with a primary focus on glutes and overall strength and we took out her cardio completely and she absolutely flourished on all of it!

I knew I was going to be happy working with Chris from the first day I contacted him. I sent an email and he was available to call me almost immediately. I told him about myself and my goals and we got going on my individualized plan right away!

This availability continued on from there and was a huge help. Any time I texted or emailed with a question or concern, Chris always replied right away with answers and reassurance. For me this was a huge factor in my journey because I always felt supported and like Chris really cared about my success.

Learning about IIFYM, having a great coach to guide me in implementing it in my life and learning so much about training has changed so much more than just my physical appearance. I have struggled my whole life with my body image, disordered eating and feeling like I’d always be unhappy with my body. What Chris’s coaching gave me was confidence. Not just the confidence gained from six pack abs and a round booty (although he helped me obtain these as well!), but the confidence of knowing that I’m making positive changes in my eating, improving both my mental and physical health.

Before starting IIFYM, I was lifting light, doing cardio almost daily and eating “clean”… which for me equaled eating nothing that I wanted, gagging on chicken three times a day and being hungry most of the time. This all lead to some serious binging on the weekends. I actually gained weight trying to eat “clean”. Kudos to those who can do it, but for me, it was not a reasonable way of life and by no means sustainable (Mama needs her peanut butter, Oreos and cereal on occasion!). It was also causing me a lot of mental stress because I’d feel terrible about myself after binging which led to me excessively restricting my eating for the next few days only to repeat the cycle week after week.

I was frustrated with not seeing results, feeling like I’d never be able to have a healthy relationship with food and feeling like I just didn’t know what I was doing or what to do to improve!

When I found the DDT on Instagram, I checked out the website and contacted Chris. After speaking, I immediately felt excited and encouraged and like IIFYM was something I could really be successful at! And I have been! Chris has been great at not just guiding me on what to do as far as eating and nutrition, but also explaining why and what works best for my specific body type and my personal goals. My knowledge, physical and mental health, appearance, confidence and relationship with food have all improved since I began training with Coach Chris. I couldn’t be happier with my experience with DDT and everything I have gained from Chris’s coaching.
