The Cost of Getting Lean- Dominic Sassen’s Success Journey

How’s it going ladies and gents! Today we are excited to share our client and friend, Dominic Sassen’s 12 week Dieting phase story. Dominic first came to us with the goals of wanting to lose body fat, build muscle, increase strength, and most importantly feel comfortable in his own skin and gain more knowledge within training and nutrition.

We knew with some structure, guidance, science, building a solid relationship, and accountability, Dominic would do awesome! Not to mention, we have been coaching his awesome wife Crystal so we knew this would be a fun journey!

So we set him up using flexible dieting for his daily nutrition, programmed him a properly periodized strength training protocol that emphasized heavy lifting based around Squats, Deadlifts, and Bench Press, along with a minimal amount of cardio and Dominic really improved his overall body composition while dropping a total of 11 plus pounds, learning how to find balance, and feeling better about his overall image!

We like to show these stats because too often we see misleading information about weight loss or weight gains.

The moral of Dominic’s story is he lost a significant amount of body fat, increased lean body mass, strength, and is now in a healthy recovery diet increasing his calories and building more muscle. Dominic worked his ass of each and every day and not once did we have to drop his calories all throughout the dieting phase, all we did was make minor tweaks to his cardio and he attained his goals.

Dominic never wanted to go the route where you have to have a full on six pack and sacrifice so much. Many people do not realize the cost of getting lean, which entails:

  • Potentialy very low food levels
  • Decreased energy from low food levels
  • Loss of strength and performance decrements

Dominic chose to just get leaner and feel good about himself, no six pack needed. Nothing is impossible ladies and gentleman.

We’re extremely proud of Dominic and it’s been an honor coaching him and being a part of his journey. Most importantly it’s been amazing getting to know Dominic as an individual and we consider him a friend and part of the DDT family.

See what Dominic has to say about his 12 week Journey …

I will never forget walking into the gym and to realize the reality of my situation. It was a normal day at work and we had started a fitness challenge. I hadn’t worked out in years and I decided I was going to start up again so that day I went to use my gym membership that I hadn’t used in a really long time. I walked into the gym ready to conquer the world but before I started I needed to know where I was at with my weight, so I stepped on the scale at the gym because I didn’t have one at home. I thought I was probably about 198lbs and I was okay with that… I waited for the results… and then 220lbs came up. That had to be wrong so I stepped on it again and… 220lbs again. I did it three other times and every time it read 220lbs.

That was where my fitness journey began. Over the years I have done a ton of different activities to get into better shape from bike riding, cross-fit, and even a triathlon. Through the years I was able to lose more weight and become healthier and healthier. I learned a lot about fitness and different ways to lift weights. I was happy with my results but I have always wanted to learn more. Nutrition was something that I always struggled with as I had no idea where to start. I tried The Zone diet, Paleo diet, and even Zone Paleo but nothing really made sense to me. I just didn’t understand anything about it.

This last year I noticed I was starting to slide into old bad habits. I was eating bad and wasn’t working out as much. I started to get into a state of denial in that I wasn’t gaining weight because the scale wasn’t going up but I was gaining body fat. You get to a point where you start to feel lost and overwhelmed. You don’t know where to start and how to get back on track. I had mentioned to my wife that I had always wanted to learn more about nutrition and for my birthday she decided to sign me up with Coach Eric. It was the best thing that she could have ever given me.

Eric helped get me back on track and was able to give me a good game plan to follow. I thought it was going to be just a workout plan and a meal plan and boy was I wrong. When I signed up with DDT I signed up with coaches that care about you and support you in your goals. Coaches that make themselves available to you and that are very responsive. Coaches that take the time to get to know you as a person and aren’t just trying to take your money. It has been one of the best things that I have ever done and I have learned so much through this experience! I have learned about nutrition and fitness but more importantly I have learned about balance and life. Eric is not only my coach but he is someone that I consider a friend.

Through Eric I was able to lose about 15lbs and drop 5 inches around my waist. I finished the dieting phase with Eric and now he is coaching me on my reverse diet. I am excited to see where this next phase takes me. I do want to thank Eric for everything that he has done. Eric, I would not be where I am if it weren’t for you and your support. Thank you for being an amazing coach and more importantly a genuinely great person!!!!
